Today is the first day Ruth's Chris will operate a steak house in the New Orleans metro area it left following Hurricane Katrina. More than 78 employees will have jobs at the Metairie eatery on Veterans Memorial Boulevard providing dinner only. The cozy political power lunchers will have to wait awhile to return.

When the publicly traded company quickly moved its headquarters to Orlando, Fla., from New Orleans following the storm, many natives felt it to be a shocking abandonment. Many say they'll never dine again at Ruth's Chris. Literally thousands of businesses were forced or chose to move in the wake of Katrina's devastation but Ruth's Chris was villainized because it is an iconic restaurant chain born and bred here in the Crescent City.
