Port of New Orleans Readies Louisiana Avenue Terminal for Heavier Cargo

The Port of New Orleans is set to move forward with plans to repave its Louisiana Avenue Terminal, which was last redone in the 1970s.

Concrete improvements are needed to handle heavier cargo in an existing break bulk terminal leased by Coastal Cargo, a subsidiary of New Orleans-based Jackson Kearney Group, said port spokesman Chris Bonura. The break bulk terminal handles steel cargo, different types of metals as well as lumber. The pavement in the terminal would need to hold a weight capacity of 1,000 pounds per square foot.
