New Orleans Post Offices Reopen in Lower Ninth Ward

Residents of the Lower Ninth Ward will be able to receive their first delivered letters since Hurricane Katrina when the U.S. Postal Service's Bywater facility reopens July 10.

Despite large-scale destruction in eastern New Orleans, signs of recovery are reappearing slowly. Reopening the Bywater facility near the Industrial Canal's breach - and the return of operations in the USPS facility on Chef Menteur Highway in late 2006 - means residents are coming back, said New Orleans Postmaster Alan Cousin.
