One of the most important decisions the next mayor of New Orleans will have to make is choosing a new police chief and it's important he or she doesn't limit the search to New Orleans, said Rafael Goyeneche, president of the Metropolitan Crime Commission.
"Why would you want to limit your search to people within the New Orleans Police Department?" Goyeneche asked. "If the objective is to get the best police chief, why not fish in the ocean as opposed to a pond? But that doesn't mean you're not going to select a local. It just means if you select a local he or she will be the absolute best that's available. You don't exclude locals, but compare them to what's available nationally."See the full content of this document
