Louisiana Lawmakers Remove Tourism Spending Cap

Summary


House Bill 270, legislation designed to increase funding for the Louisiana's tourism promotion efforts, passed the state Senate June 7 without opposition. The bill has already passed the House and the 32-0 Senate vote moves the bill to the governor's desk for signature.

The legislation, authored by House Appropriations Committee Chairman John Alario, D-Westwego, removes the limitation on the proceeds of the sales and use tax levied by the Louisiana Tourism Promotion District dedicated and pledged to tourism promotion. Through the LTPD, the Office of Tourism in the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, receives .03 percent of the tax collected statewide.
