The Jefferson Parish Council has adopted The Jefferson Parish Economic Development Commission's newest economic development strategy. JEDCO said the plan, The Jefferson EDGE 2020, will serve as the parish's official economic development plan.

New Orleans Average Gas Price Drops by a Penny

City gas prices dipped slightly overnight, falling from an average $2.511 per gallon of regular grade Monday to $2.508 today, according to AAA. A month ago, the average price stood at $2.395. A year ago, it was $3.593.

Corps Awards $12.3m Levee Contract to Circle Inc. Of Belle Chasse

The Army Corps of Engineers today said it has awarded a $12.3 million contract to Circle Inc. of Belle Chasse to enlarge the Lake Cataouatche levee on the West Bank. The contract calls for raising the height of 2.7 miles of the levee to more than 11.5 feet, a level that will protect Avondale, Waggaman and Bridge City from a storm surge that has a 1 percent chance of occurring each year.

Lafayette-Based Iberiabank Shareholders Approve Increase in Shares

Lafayette-based IberiaBank Corp. said the company's shareholders have approved an amendment to the company's articles of incorporation to increase the authorized common stock from 25 million to 50 million shares. As of July 20, the company had 22.1 million shares of common stock issued and outstanding or reserved for issuance.

Gentilly Pediatrics Clinic Reopening

A Gentilly pediatrics clinic shuttering since Hurricane Katrina is reopening. Children's Hospital, Desire Street Ministries and LSU Health Sciences Center will celebrate the reopening of Kids First Pediatrics, 3512 Louisa St., with an event at 8 a.m. Friday at the clinic.

N.O. Police Department Investigates Robberies at Marigny Businesses

At least two Faubourg Marigny businesses were robbed at gunpoint this month and residents say other neighborhood businesses might also have been hit. The two incidents confirmed as of this morning by the New Orleans Police Department took place in late afternoon.

Goodwill Chooses Mid-City Albertson's for New Orleans Hqs

Four years after Hurricane Katrina damaged its New Orleans headquarters, Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Louisiana is opening new headquarters in the city. A former Albertson's grocery store in Mid-City at South Jefferson Davis Parkway and Tulane Avenue will be the new headquarters as well as be used for Goodwill's job-training and retail store operations.

These and other things are slated for review as part of the New Orleans Office of Inspector General's 2010 audit and inspection plans, which were released today.
