Jefferson Parish is participating in a six- parish collaboration on evacuation re-entry for businesses following a disaster such as a hurricane. Louisiana manufacturing employment increased 3.2 percent over the past 12 months, according to the 2007 Louisiana Manufacturers Register, an industrial directory published annually by Manufacturers' News Inc. Growth of Gulf of Mexico's Dead Zone Spurs Protests Over Federal Inaction

Conservation and fishing organizations protested today the lack of progress made to address the dead zone in the Gulf of Mexico. At a meeting of the Task Force made up of state and federal agencies, groups questioned why more than six years after an action plan was released, little action has taken place to reduce the size of the dead zone. Now, increased corn production to fuel the ethanol boom could accelerate growth of the dead zone, protesters claim.
