Texas-Based Exxonmobil Pays $571m to Settle Pollution Suit
ExxonMobil will spend $571 million to reduce air emissions at seven U.S. refineries to settle a long-running U.S. Environmental Protection Agency suit for Clean Air Act violations. The plants are located in Baton Rouge and Chalmette; Baytown and Beaumont, Texas; Billings, Mont.; Joliet, Ill.; and Torrance, Calif. Enterprise Fleet Services, a full-service fleet management company for businesses, has reopened at 3529 N. 110 Service Road in Metairie, which had been closed since Hurricane Katrina. All programs and services have resumed at the fully staffed branch.
New Orleans-Based Mcmoran Exploration Books First Profit in More Than Two Years
Oil and gas exploration company McMoRan Exploration of New Orleans booked its first profitable quarter since the first quarter of 2003. McMoRan today reported net income of $6.7 million, or 21 cents per share for the third quarter, up 182 percent compared with a net loss of $8.2 million, or 48 cents per share, for the 2004 third quarter. Quarterly revenues were $44.3 million, up 507 percent compared with revenues of $7.3 million for last years' third quarter.

As developers search for financing for the stalled World Trade Center hotel project, developers have not talked publicly about one funding option ? until now. Lane Sisung, a member of the development team, said he thinks the group could use the city's 1.5 percent share of a 13 percent hotel occupancy tax to generate funding for the conversion of the 33- story building into a $190 million Westin Hotel.
New Orleans Versus Termites Back On Attack Track
The $1 million plan to rid the French Quarter of Formosan subterranean termites is back on track despite Hurricane Katrina's destruction, Louisiana State University officials say. Operation Full Stop is a $5 million federally funded research project that spans five states: Florida, Mississippi, Texas, Hawaii and Louisiana. A fifth of that money is spent to reduce the number of destructive termites in the French Quarter.

Algiers Garbage Collection Returns Monday
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the Louisiana Recovery Field Office said curbside garbage collection will resume Monday in Algiers. Residents should limit curbside garbage to no more than two 32- gallon trash containers or the equivalent of eight trash bags per week.
Waste Management Doubles Pickup Dates in Southeast La.
Waste Management of Louisiana LLC will resume twice-a-week collection services in southeast Louisiana, starting Monday. Louisiana Ranks No. 14 in Exports Pre-Katrina
Prior to hurricanes Katrina and Rita, Louisiana exports reached $13.4 billion, a 7.4 percent increase compared with the first eight months in 2004, according the World Trade Center of New Orleans.
